We enter the final week of the regular season in dramatic fashion as four teams are now out of contention, five teams have clinched playoff berths, and three teams aim for a wild card. The Holy Penguins, Nash Kato, Sanctus Koala, and Takada Monster Army all punched their ticket to the dance; however, the overall playoff picture remains murky.
The season’s most dominant team and clear favorite going into the knockout rounds remains the Holy Penguins as they mathematically locked up the first seed. They can play spoiler to division rival D.C. Whitefish with a win. If the Whitefish can knock off the Pens, they will clinch a playoff berth and extinguish the hopes of Ebola and Yankee Zulu. These two squads have the luxury of playing each other this week. A win combined with a Whitefish loss means a likely playoff spot, given their point scored for the season.
Who will get the #2 spot? Although Nash Kato has clinched the Premier Division championship, they trail in the points race with their Commonwealth counterparts, the Koalas and Monster Army. They will need a win and both Commonwealth teams to take a dive against their inferior opponents this week.
With only one game left to play, let’s look at the season-end achievements.
