Being Charitable Shouldn't be a Fantasy

Let’s take a quick break from reviewing the teams and general managers playing in USAFL Bowl XIX and focus on the charities they are playing for this season.

Nash Kato represented the V Foundation this season. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano with one goal in mind: to achieve Victory Over Cancer. Since its formation in 1993, the V Foundation has awarded nearly $290 million in cancer research grants nationwide and has grown to become one of the premier supporters of cutting-edge cancer research. Due to generous donors, the Foundation has an endowment that covers administrative expenses.

World’s Finest changed gears this season after donating the last two season’s winnings to the Ed Reed Foundation and the creation of a recreational park in St. Rose, Louisiana the only outdoor public space for kids to play or families to gather.

By doing so, the league also got a brick in the park’s Founder’s Walkway. This season; however, World’s Finest decided to support Fisher House. Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge.

No matter who wins USAFL Bowl XIX, a deserving and worthy charity will benefit from the donations made this season by all 12 owners/general managers. To view the other charities that teams advocated for this season, check out the charities page at: https://usafl1.wixsite.com/usafl/about.
