What a week this turned out to be. Upsets, blowouts, and undefeated seasons come to an end. Here’s your weekly wrap-up of each game in 10-lines or less.
The biggest story of the week was the MASSIVE upset carried out by the #12 Mighty Ducks of Southern Delaware (1-3) over the previously undefeated 3-0 #1 D.C. Whitefish (3-1). This game was an afterthought coming into Week 4. The 0-3 Ducks had underperformed in divisional play, while the Whitefish swept the entirety of the Premier Division. Even the projections had the Duck as 117-107 underdogs, but thanks to a 48-point performance by Tyreek Hill, the number one WR in the league, the Quack Attack sent the Whitefish back to the Potomac. The biggest factor in the Whitefish losing their first game of the season comes from the pitiful combined effort of CeeDee Lamb, Cole Beasley, and the Rams D/ST which earned a dismal -1 points. Could this be the start of a run for the Ducks? With a favorable matchup against the Hawks next week, they could regain some ground in the CW Division. Meanwhile, the Whitefish look to regain their top spot next week with a win over the Strokes.
In a low-scoring but nail-biter of a game, #3 Yankee Zulu (3-1) outlasted #2 Ebola! (3-1) 87-82. The win will likely propel the Zulus to the #1 spot as both Ebola and the D.C. Whitefish came up short this week. Fairly solid games across the board for both teams, but the difference maker was Darnell Mooney remaining on the bench for Ebola! A matchup of optimal lineups would have seen a 99-90 victory for Ebola! and a 4-0 record. Both teams remain atop of their respective divisions, albeit not as safe as last week.
The #7 Holy Penguins are off to one of the roughest starts in their franchise history at 1-3 after the crushing defeat to the #4 Koala in their rivalry game. The Koala takes a 9-8 advantage in their franchise battles. The rain certainly limited Tom Brady’s scoring potential that might have changed the outcome of this game. The Koala on the other hand has inched their way into a tie for the top spot in the CW Division and based on point difference, currently holds the crown as the Queen of the Commonwealth. A poor performance by the Saints D/ST was erased by Dak Prescott’s and David Montgomery’s 57-point performance. The win comes with some sacrifice; however, as Montgomery is reportedly nursing a knee sprain that is expected to sideline him 4-to-5 weeks, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com. The road doesn’t get easier for the Pens who will meet with top contender Ebola! next week.
Nothing stings more than breaking the 100-point threshold and still ends up with a loss. In a battle between 1-2 teams, the #9 Deer Antler Addicts had a much better team performance than the #11 Monster Army. 60% of Takada’s scoring came from two players, Taylor Heinicke and Terry McLaurin, while every other player outrageously underperformed. GM Mike S. can’t blame his players though, as an optimal lineup would have netted TMA an additional 52-points and a win. On the other sideline, the Addict delivered a much more distributed point total among their players with the only hiccup being GM Josh’s reliance on DeAndre Hopkins instead of Chase Edmonds.
A 72-point whooping is the biggest beat down of the season thus far and the #10 Strokes sent the #8 Hawks packing back to the Emerald City trying to figure out what went wrong. There are few occasions where an entire starting lineup performs below their projected totals. This just happened. In fact, with the exception of Ryan Tannehill on the bench who score +1 above his projections, every single player underperformed. No coaching decision could have saved the Hawks this week. Meanwhile, nearly the opposite happened on the opposite side of the field. The Strokes had nearly five players register in the 20+ club this week and the -1 performance by TE Jordan Askins didn’t even register as a blip on the radar. While almost the entirety of the league’s defenses averaged at or below projected totals, the Bills D/ST earned 26 points. The CW Division is heating up between Koala, Ebola, and the Strokes.
After dropping back-to-back games to the Holy Penguins and the D.C. Whitefish, World’s Finest needed a statement game, and who better to make an example of than Nash Kato in a rivalry game. The early exit of TE Logan Thomas in the first half of Sunday’s game certainly didn’t help matters, but another case of underperforming starters and unexpected explosions by overachieving bench players, quickly decided this game for Nash Kato by mid-Sunday afternoon. World’s Finest had three monsters this week as Ezekiel Elliott, DJ Moore, and Deebo Samuel combined for 90 points making up 60% of the scoring total. Both teams sit at .500 with 2-2 records, but the win moves the rivalry to 13-10 in favor of WFFC.
